LYON, a city for tourists

Snow and mountain fun are at Lyon's doorstep.
The Beaujolais and Burgundy regions offering the legendary softness of their landscapes and golden stoned. You will have the chance to discover the "Châteaux" and taste the wine!

Lyon is characterised by the diversity of its restaurants: gastronomic delights are available at all prices and for all tastes. The city contains over half of the department's culinary establishments, with 1500 traditional restaurants, more commonly known as "Bouchons". It is also home to some of France's greatest Chefs, including Paul Bocuse, who can perform magic on your taste buds. And for those who are in more of a hurry, the streets of Lyon are full of snack bars and brasseries.

Museum of Fabrics and museum of decorative Arts

The fabric museum is closely associated with the history of silk and his successor to the old museum of Art and Industry which was created by the Lyon Chamber of commerce in 1864. Since 1946, it has been housed in the 18th century Hotel de Villeroy. The visitor can trace the development of weaving and textile décor, with pride of place naturally given to the Lyon silk industry between the 17th and 20th centuries and its various uses ; high quality interior decoration and clothing. The decorative Arts museum was opened to the public in 1925 and is designed to complement the neighbouring Fabric Museum. The Museum is housed in the hotel Lacroix-Laval and displays the use of textiles and tapestries in a XVIIth and XVIIIth century interior setting.

Museum of Fine Arts

Located in the heart of Lyon,Museum of Fine Arts is home to one of France’s largest collections of works of art. Covering almost 7000m², the Museum offers a panoramic view of civilisation with items ranging from Ancient Greece and Egypt to medieval art and sculpture right up to present : Perugino, Veronese, Rubens, Gauguin, Picasso, Nicolas de Staël and Francis Bacon.

The Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization:

The Fourvière archeological park constitute a unique entry in France with its Roman theatre and Odeon. The Museum offers one of the most important archeological collection of Gaul.
The exhibits allow the visitor to get a clear picture of the daily life, economic conditions, institutions, beliefs monuments and artistic archievements of the first four centuries of the Christian era.

The Museum of Contemporary Art:

In 1983, the city of Lyon decided to create a specialized department in charge of forming a collection of contemporary art within the Fine Arts Museum, with its own program of exhibitions and responsible for the organization of the "Octobre des Arts" Show, replaced in 1991 by the Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art. In 1988, the Museums of France administrative agency conferred the title of Museum of Contemporary Art. On December 19, 1995, the Museum of Contemporary Art inaugurated its new building at the Cité Internationale and welcomed 130,000 visitors during the 3rd edition of the two-month long Biennial Exhibition.

Discovery of The Beaujolais

Streching from the North of Lyon to the Southern Burgundy, Beaujolais wine is unique and richly diverse. Worldfamous for its crus such as Chiroubles, Brouilly, Saint Amour, Moulin à Vent, Beaujolais wine is also well-known for its smooth, fruity and young wine : the Beaujolais Nouveau.

All along the wine route, you will find undulating vineyards, tiny villages made of honey-coloured stone houses, a Romanesque church and its cloister, a chateau and its gardens…and at every turning, the call of a wine cellar and the inimitable bouquet of a Beaujolais wine.

Discover the Azergues valley and the southern part of the Beaujolais, the “Pierre Dorées” region, passing through the villages of Chatillon, Chessy and le Bois d’Oingt.

French Alps


Chamonix - France

Drive by coach along the highway through the Arve Valley to Chamonix.
Central to an international road network, which makes it easily accessible from all the big European capitals, Chamonix has preserved the charm of an authentic alpine village in untouched natural surroundings. Town of all sports, Chamonix has a solid reputation and its countless hotels, restaurants and night-clubs will warmly receive you.

Once you are in Chamonix start the trip by cable car to the top of the « Aiguilles du Midi » (12700 feet) providing you with an unforgettable panorama of the Alps and the Mont-Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe (14500 feet).

Lunch will be taken in a typical « Savoyard » restaurant in Chamonix, a town that holds French culinary tradition known as the best all over the world. After lunch there will be time for browsing and shopping. You will discover the spectacular landscape between the Mont-Blanc and the Lake Geneva while the coach takes you back to Geneva.

Bourgogne destination

Depart from Châlon-sur-Saône, through the most celebrated of the Côte de Beaune vineyards : Puligny Montrachet, Volnay, Pommard, Meursault .

At Meursault, a visit of the château cellars and a tasting of these wines, justly renowned amongst the finest white Burgundies for their elegance and balance.
From here drive on to Beaune for lunch in the centre of the town.
We start the afternoon with a visit to the famed Hospices de Beaune to admire its stunning 15th Century architecture.

After the visit we will leave for the region north of Beaune, via the Côte-de-Nuits towns of Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Fixin, Marsannay la Côte and on to Clos Vougeot where we will visit the 12th Century Cistercian abbey, nowadays the home of the prestigious brotherhood of the Chevaliers du Taste-vin.
